Barnyard, earth, dirt, horsey scents and jammy cherries were abundant. Intense, powerful and dense, I caught a glimpse of the quality, but it was not my style of wine.

I remember tasting this on release and I could not stand it at the time. It was a massive, over the top, jammy mess. A decade in the bottle changed this wine into a large, brooding monster, but without the extreme jammy qualities. Earth, dirt, stone, licorice, jam and spice notes, dense, packed and oversized, there was no elegance to this beast, but there was no touch of heat in the 17% ABV either.

Served double blind, this was my first 17.5% ABV, dry, red wine and I am forced to admit, there was no touch of heat in this monster. Tar, earth, jammy blackberry, jammy cassis, spice and cola aromas led to a powerful, big wine that while it lacked elegance, it showed much younger than I could have imagined. Wouldn't buy it, but glad I tried it!

Licoirce, spicy cherries, kirsch, jam and earth scents led to a big, dense, powerful wine filled with ripe and over ripe, jammy black and red berries. Served double blind, I was shocked to discover it was Zinfandel. From vines planted back in 1887 on a steep hillside, this was an interesting wine to taste.
