I'm not normally a fan of Hundred Acre, as I find the wines often to be over the top. This bottle was an exception. OK, there was a lot of oak in the wine. But once past the overt vanilla notes, the texture was lush, the abundant levels of fruit were sweet, ripe and fresh. Massive, intense, mouth filling, packed with jammy black and blue fruits, coffee bean, licorice, smoke and vanilla. This is clearly a well made wine. But it's equally clear liking this wine a lot, is a matter of style. It was too hot, ABVic, jammy and oaky for my taste. The powerful perfume is packed with fresh picked blueberries, blackberries, licorice, caramel, vanilla, coffee and smoke. Plush, fat and low in acidity, this powerful wine fills your mouth with a huge layer of jammy, dark berry liqueur. Some heat is found in the 15.5 ABV finish. Offering an oak, black fruit, jam, coffee, blueberry, smoke and molasses perfume. Big, dense, full bodied and concentrated, the fat flavors stain your palate. Perhaps it's simply a matter of style, but I found it difficult to remain interested in the wine. With its massive level of concentration of over ripe and extremely ripe fruits, lavish amount of oak and high level of ABV, this was close to being over the top. I get that it's well made, which is where the score comes from, but for me, I found it tiring to drink.
