Bodega Weinert Malbec Estrella (Mendoza)
This is a big, concentrated, full bodied wine. Served blind, with its cassis, truffle, tobacco and ripe blackberry profile, I thought it was a Bordeaux from a ripe year, perhaps 1989. It tasted that young! With soft tannins and a long, rich, spicy, black fruit finish, this was a treat. That being said, I liked this wine so much, I bought a few bottles. I popped one a few months later. That wine was not the same. It was a fake bottle! The cork was not soaked through as it should have been, for a wine that old. Plus none of the complexity or ripeness was evident in the second bottle. I asked a wine maker from Argentina about it and he just smiled. He said this wine was the most faked wine from South America. Buyer beware on this one if you're buying it today. 6,519 Views Tasted Aug 7, 2009 |
