2021 Bordeaux Superieur wines can offer some of the best values in the entire Bordeaux appellation. Even though the year was more than difficult for growers, especially with a preponderance of Merlot, and low yields, there are some fine wines worth looking at.
2021 Cotes de Bordeaux endured a difficult growing season with devastating frosts, downy mildew attacks, and rainy weather until the vintage was saved by the Indian Summer. Production was down, but the wines from these appellations ended up quite good, stylish and well-priced.
2021 Lalande de Pomerol had a similar growing season to its much more famous neighboring appellation, Pomerol, but the devastation from the frosts was much worse. Even with all of the year’s difficulties and challenges, there are some nice, early-drinking wines offering good style and character.
Pomerol produced a myriad of fabulous wines in 2021. Not in the opulent, flashy style of the 3 decent, preceding vintages, but in a classic mode, with lower alcohol levels, freshness, vibrancy, purity, and elegance.

2021 Saint Emilion is a bit of a mixed vintage with some estates clearly making better wine than others. Those with more Cabernet Franc in the blend, and vineyards able to handle the excess water produced some very strong wines, many of which will be a treat to enjoy on release.
2021 Pessac Leognon is a tricky vintage. But once you get a handle it, as this article does, you will see there are some very good red wines and mind-blowing white wines with purity, freshness and lift! In fact, the only 100 Pt wine this year is from Pessac Leognan!
