2021 Domaine Le Prieuré Des Papes Vieilles Vignes – Fresh, floral, sweet, and fruity, the wine is medium-bodied, soft, polished, elegant and fresh with a core of kirsch, white pepper, and raspberries. The palate is fresh, the fruits have lift, energy, sweetness, and a hint of orange citrus with touches of white pepper in the elegant, vibrant finish. 2021 Domaine Santa Duc Habemus Papam – Leafy, spicy, minty fresh, and peppery, the kirsch notes are sweet, creamy, vibrant and lively. Supple and soft in texture, with a spicy accent to the dark red fruits on the mid-palate, and in the finish, this is a pleasure to taste now, and will be even better with a year or two of aging. 2021 Domaine Santa Duc Le Pied de Baud – Spicy kirsch, pepper, herbs, and forest leave open the nose. But, here, it is the supple, creamy textures, freshness, sweetness, and purity in the red fruits on the medium-bodied palate, along with the elegant finish that steals the show. 2021 Domaine Santa Duc Les Saintes Vierges – Earthy red fruits, flowers, and white pepper are initially what you find in the aromatics. On the palate, the wine is elegant, refined, medium-bodied, supple, and creamy, with a peppery, kirsch, and black raspberry finish to wrap everything up neatly. The wine blends close to 90% Grenache, with 9% Mourvedre, and 1% Counoise. Drink from 2024-2035. 93 Pts

2021 Duseigneur Matteo Pictor Pape – Flowers, garrigue, olives, and kirsch start off this medium-bodied, soft, elegant, refined, forward, easy-to-like charmer. This will be a pleasure to drink on release. The wine is made from 80% Grenache with 20% Syrah. Drink from 2024-2029. 90 Pts

2021 Elodie Jaume – Medium-bodied, floral, and fresh with a core of bright, red raspberries, and strawberries, the wine is bright, fresh ,and clean, with a crisp edge to the red fruits on the palate, and in the finish. Drink from 2024-2028. 88 Pts

2021 Familie Isabel Ferrando Colombis – With good color, the wine opens with flowery notes coupled with spice, black raspberry, smoke pepper, citrus rind and green olives. On the palate, the wine is fresh, spicy, meaty, and slightly chewy with a fruity presence on the mid-palate and a peppery edge to the dark kirsch, along with a sprig of mint that comes in at the end of the finish. 2021 Familie Isabelle Ferrando Châteauneuf-du-Pape – Medium-bodied, and earthy in character, with notes of flowers, dark kirsch and garrigue. The wine is forward, and fruity with an elegant character. There is a slightly chewy edge to the sweet, ripe, pure red fruits on the palate and in the finish. The wine will be easy to enjoy on release and over the next 7-10 years. Drink from 2023-2032. 94 Pts

2021 Familie Isabelle Ferrando Cuvée Spéciale Vieilles Clariettes – Mildly yellowed honey in color, this is the second vintage for the newly renamed Cuvée Spéciale Vieilles Clariettes. The wine opens with flowers, spice, orange rind, mint, and yellow citrus . The wine is fresh, subtle, spicy, and vibrant, with an array of citrus notes. and a touch of salt that comes in on the end of the finish. Half of the wine was vinified in small, wine globes while the remaining wine was aged in neutral foudres. The wine was aged in the same globes. and foudres for 18 months before bottling. Only 800 magnums were produced. The wine is made from 100% Old vine Clairettes. Drink from 2023-2035. 96 Pts

2021 Fontavin Terre d’Ancetres – Roasted red fruits, spice, black cherries, and flower aromatics open the wine. Medium-bodied, soft, and fresh, with a soft, creamy, kirsch mid-palate, and finish, with a hint of cocoa on the backend, this will be easy-to-enjoy on release. 2021 Fortia Tradition – Juicy kirsch, sweet, cherries, licorice, pepper, and underbrush notes open the wine before you get to its core of fresh, sweet, spicy, earthy, red fruits. Supple in texture, with a kick of white pepper on the backend, this is going to be nice to enjoy on release, and for at least a decade after that. The wine is produced from a blend of close to equal parts Grenache, and Mourvedre with about 10% Syrah. Drink from 2024-2031. 90 Pts

2021 Galevan Chateauneuf du Pape – Garrigue, peppery red fruits, flowers, and spice in the perfume grab your attention. The wine is soft, forward, fresh and early drinking, with a black raspberry, licorice and sweet , peppery, black cherry endnote. The wine was produced using about 90% Grenache with the rest of the blend taken up with Mourvedre. Drink from 2024-2029. 90 Pts

2021 Grand Veneur Le Miocène – White pepper, black raspberries, and flowers work together to form the core of this medium-bodied, elegant, fresh, soft, silky, kirsch-filled wine that will be delicious to drink on release. 2021 Grand Veneur Les Origines – Dark red berries, peppery spices, and herbs with a hint of smoke, and spice open the nose. On the palate, the wine is lush, round, fruity, creamy, and sweet, with layers of plush, dark red fruits, and white pepper on the palate that carries through to the finish. The wine was made with a blend of 50% old vine Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, and 20% Syrah. Drink from 2024-2032. 93 Pts

2021 Grand Veneur Vieilles Vignes – As always, this is quite dark in color. The wine is deep, meaty, smoky, rich, and lush. There is a plushness, and polish to the fruits on the palate with a creamy edge to the layers of fruit in the lengthy finish. The wine blends 45% Grenache, 45% Mourvedre, and 10% Syrah. There is a lot going on here, including some oak that needs to be resolved. So give it a year or two before popping a cork and it should be even better. Drink from 2024 – 2035. 94 Pts

2021 Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape – White pepper, licorice, and flowers with a blast of kirsch open the nose. The palate is filled with strawberries, black raspberries, herbs and peppery kirsch. Soft, fresh and fruity, this is already a treat. And, a few years in the bottle is going to make it even better. The wine blends 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% Cinsault. Drink from 2024-2031. 91 Pts

2021 Janasse Vieilles Vignes – One of the deeper colored wines this year, licorice, smoke, flowers, cocoa, black cherries, and mint create the perfume. The wine is lush, supple, fresh, and creamy with layers of dark red fruits, and spice that linger n the palate and in the finish. This is one of the wines of the vintage. 2021 Jean-Pierre Boisson Domaine du Pere Caboche Creation d’Emilie – Wild strawberries, cherries, and peppery notes open the perfume. The wine is soft, medium-bodied, elegant, and fruity and will be quite easy to enjoy on release with all of its soft, kirsch and raspberries on the mid-palate, and in the finish. The wine is made from a majority of Grenache with Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre planted in the La Crau lieu-dit. Drink from 2024-2030. 91 Pts

The wine is medium-bodied, fresh, vibrant, and spicy with sweetness, and white pepper to add to its kirsch, and raspberry oriented finish. 2021 La Barroche Cuvee Pure – Roses and violets, licorice, and kirsch-liqueur aromatics create the perfume. However, it is on the palate where the wine really shines. Silky, fresh, sensuous, pure, soft, and polished raspberries, cherries, and kirsch cover the mid-palate and the elegant finish, leaving you with a hint of chocolate and white pepper in the endnote that rounds everything out. 2021 Le Clos du Caillou Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition – With a nose of licorice, black pepper and red fruits, the entry level Chateauneuf du Pape from Le Clos du Caillou delivers a forward, fresh, sweet, red berry palate with freshness, verve and ripe kirsch in the finish. The wine is vinified in concreate vats and aged in neutral foudres. The wine was made using a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah.
