2021 Bordeaux Superieur wines represent some of the best values in the entire Bordeaux appellation. Though, it is important to be selective, as Bordeaux Superieur is a massive appellation and in difficult vintages like 2021, not all wines are equal.

All of the following 2021 Bordeaux Superieur wines were tasted in Bordeaux in April in non-blind conditions.

2021 Balthus – Espresso, herbs, and smoked cherries show up in the nose and soft, round-textured, medium-bodied, oaky, plummy palate. Drink from 2023-2029. 88-90 Pts

2021 Bolaire – Plums and cherries with cocoa show up easily in the round, fruity palate and finish. Drink from 2023-2028. 86-88 Pts

2021 Bouscat Belle-Annie – Licorice, cocoa, and plums come through easily here. Soft, plummy, round, and forward, you can drink this on release with pleasure. Drink from 2022-2029. 88-90 Pts

2021 Bouscat Caduce – Fruity, fresh, ripe with chocolate-covered cherries and plums on the nose and palate. Drink this charmer over the next few years. Drink from 2023-2028. 87-89 Pts

2021 Bouscat Cuvee la Gargone – Black raspberries, with cocoa, licorice, and espresso in the nose and mid-palate. The medium-bodied wine is forward, round, and still a bit on the oaky side. Drink from 2023-2028. 87-89 Pts

2021 Bouscat Les Portes de L’Am – Deeply colored, the wine is loaded with dark plums and black cherries with accents of licorice, cocoa, and espresso. The wine offers plenty of ripe, round, fleshy fruits on the palate and in the finish. This wine is a Signature Selection Exclusive. Drink from 2023-2034. 90-92 Pts

2021 Clos de La Molenie – Produced from 100% Merlot, the wine is loaded with sweet, plums, licorice, and dark cherries. Medium-bodied, round-textured and forward, you can enjoy with pleasure on release. 2023-2028. 88-90 Pts

2021 Croix Mouton – Medium-bodied, light, fresh, refreshing, and forward, right off the bat, all the ripe, juicy red plums and cherries come through with a touch of chocolate and licorice on the back end. Drink this on the young side for the maximum amount of fruit. Drink from 2023-2028. 87-89 Pts

2021 Dame de Coeur du Château Peyfaures – Espresso tinted plums on the nose and medium-bodied palate are soft and fresh, with a touch of cherries and mint on the mid-palate and in the finish. Drink from 2023-2029. 87-89 Pts

2021 De La Cour d’Argent – Soft, forward, fruity, and forward, the medium-bodied wine is loaded with cocoa-dusted black raspberries and ripe strawberries making this already charming to taste. Drink from 2023-2028. 86-88 Pts

2021 Grand Village – Flowers, spice, tobacco leaf, herbs, and red fruits are on the nose. Medium-bodied, soft, elegant. refined, silky, and fresh, there is a nice purity and sweetness to the fruits on the mid-palate and in the finish. You can enjoy this with pleasure on release. The high proportion of Cab Franc in the blend really works in this vintage, adding depth of flavor and salinity. The wine blends 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2023-2033. 90-92 Pts

2021 Jean Faux Sainte-Radegonde – Cedar, peppery herbs, and bright red fruits already show in the nose and in the cranberry and bright red cherry dominated palate. Drink from 2023-2027. 85-87 Pts

2021 Laurence – Red berry-filled, earthy, spicy, red plum and bright cherry-filled, easy to like, round, soft-textured charmer. Drink from 2023-2029. 87-89 Pts

2021 Le Pin Beausoleil – A light kiss of oak marries well with the juicy red plums and bright red cherries. There is a touch of cranberry with a hint of orange citrus in the endnote of this medium-bodied, forward wine. Drink from 2023-2029. 87-89 Pts

2021 Les Perrieres – Roses, lilacs, violets, red plums, cherries, and black raspberries are clearly in the nose and on the palate. Medium-bodied, soft, silky, forward, clean, and pure, this is a refined style of wine, finishing with sweet red pit fruits that linger on the backend. The wine blends 62% Cabernet Franc with 38% Merlot. As you can see from the blend, it is all that gorgeous ripe, Cab Franc that makes it work with the 2021 vintage. The harvest took place September 30 – October 1. Drink from 2023-2035. 92-94 Pts

2021 Pabus – Forward, fruity and fresh, with a core of ripe, sweet, juicy plums and a hint of chocolate on the back end, drink this on the young side. Drink from 2023-2028. 87-89 Pts

2021 Pey-La-Tour Reserve – Light, bright, forward, and fresh, with a core of red cherries and herbs, drink this medium-bodied wine on the young side for all of its early charms. Drink from 2023-2028. 86-88 Pts

2021 Peyfaures – Quite floral on the nose, with fresh, strawberries and cherries on the palate. Soft, sweet, and fresh, with juiciness to the fruits, you can enjoy this on the young side. Drink from 2023-2028. 86-88 Pts

2021 Reignac – Flowers, espresso, licorice, and black cherries on the nose and on the medium-bodied palate, you find a ready-to-go, dark cherry, cocoa, and plum finish. Drink from 2023-2028. 87-89 Pts

2021 Trocard – Early-drinking red berry and thyme-filled wine with fresh, red plum accents for early drinking pleasure. Drink from 2023-2028. 84-86 Pts

2021 Trocard Monrepos – Medium-bodied, forward, red cherry, thyme, cocoa, and red plum-filled, Merlot-dominated wine for early drinking pleasure. Drink from 2023-2027. 84-86 Pts
