Chateau Grand Village, owned by Jacques and Sylvia Guinaudau is located on Bordeaux’s right bank near Fronsac. Their Bordeaux wine is classified as a Bordeaux Superieur. The Bordeaux wine estate has been owned by the Guinaudau’s relatives for hundred years. In fact, it dates back to the 17th century! Starting in 2000, the Guinaudeau’s, who have been in charge of Château Lafleur in Pomerol since 1985 began producing the wines from Chateau Grand Village.
Chateau Grand Village
The 44 acre vineyard of Chateau Grand Village is planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The terroir is similar to St Emilion with its mix of calcisol going down a foot or so to a bedrock mostly made up of asteria limestone.
At Grand Village, they practice many of the same techniques employed at Lafleur. This includes pruning and de-budding adapted to each vine plant, crop thinning in summer and de-leafing. The grapes are picked by hand, followed by very careful sorting and selection. Grand Village also produces a white wine from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, from a 5 acre plot. The white is best enjoyed young. It is not meant to age more than a few years. Jacques and Sylvia Guinaudau often refer to Grand Village as Lafleur’s second vineyard.
