The 2011 2011 Bordeaux Harvest Biodynamic Estates got off to an earlier than usual harvest in Pomerol. Even though Pomerol is always the first of the major Bordeaux wine appellations to harvest, this is much earlier than usual. Chateau Gombaude-Guillot started picking their Merlot, August 31. Gombaude-Guillot  is one of the few Pomerol producers that have earned the official, orgainic certification from Ecocert. They also practice biodynamic viticulture, which is unique for the traditionally managed appellation.
Château Nenin, owned by Jean-Hubert Delon of Chateau Leoville Las Cases fame is another of the first Pomerol estates to start harvesting their Merlot as well.
A few notable producers were seen harvesting their younger Merlot vines. In conversations we learned, many Pomerol chateaux are expecting to start harvesting sometime next week, after Monday, September 5.

Duane… It’s still too early. Most Bordeaux wine estates harvest their vineyards on a parcel by parcel basis today. If you want more specifics, please post on our wine talk forums, it’s much easier to exchange posts there… IF you have questions on select estates or appellations, please post and I will find out for you…

Any info on the harvest chemistry? Brix, TA, pH? or crop levels, tons/acre?
