2022 Pomerol Wine Buying Guide

As you can see from our 73 wine tasting notes and scores from the appellation, I loved 2022 Pomerol! There are three 100 Pt wines and numerous wines scoring in the high 90s. 2022 Pomerol is clearly set for future legendary status. There are 3 wines missing, which I will taste in April: Petrus, Le Pin, Chateau Lafleur, and Chateau L’Evangile.

2022 Pomerol wines offer everything you could hope for from the appellation. The wines are deep, concentrated, sensuous, complex, and age-worthy. These are some of the most hedonistic wines I have ever tasted from Pomerol. While they are expensive, in the years to come, they are going to be sought after, enjoyed, and discussed in the same manner as the most exalted vintages of the past. Wine buyers with the disposable income and the time to allow them to age and evolve should definitely lay some of these cellar treasures down as they will provide decades of thrilling wine tasting.

You can enjoy this with pleasure on release while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. This is a fabulous vintage of La Gravette de Certan made from 100% Merlot. Drink from 2025-2038. 93 Pts

2022 Vieux Maillet – Pomerol – Licorice, espresso, chocolate, and cherries are ready to be delivered in its creamy, fresh, lush, forward style. This will be easy to enjoy on release. Drink from 2025-2037. 91 Pts

2022 Vray Croix de Gay – Pomerol – Sporting a new label and matching wax capsule, the wine kicks off with an equally showy display of flowers, licorice, cherry liqueur, spice, and cocoa. The medium-bodied palate is supple, creamy, refined, soft, and fruity. There is a slight touch of oak remaining that I expect will be fully absorbed into the wine shortly. The sensuous, silky finish, with its layers of sweet, ripe, soft cherries, plums, and wet earth, along with a judicious touch of powdered cocoa at the back of the finish, hits everything just right. The wine blends 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc. This is the first vintage from the team that also owns Calon Segur. Drink from 2026-2042. 95 Pts
