2022 Medoc Bordeaux Tasting Report

For consumers seeking character-filled wines from the Left Bank of Bordeaux, that sell for a song, 2022 Medoc is the place! Climate change has clearly benefited the vineyards situated in the far north of Bordeaux. The names might not be well-known to many readers, but the quality is there. All of the following 2022 Medoc wines were tasted in non blind conditions in my home office in early 2025. Savvy consumers seeking value in Left Bank Cabernet Sauvignon wines should pay close attention here. Climate change has been more than helpful for many estates in the north of Bordeaux, as you can see from my wine tasting notes below.

2022 Beauvillage – Médoc – Blackberries and black currants with a dash of espresso are your initial connection to the wine in the perfume before moving on to the ripe, sweet, fruit, and mint-filled mid-palate and finish. This is a solid example of what value wine in the Left Bank is all about. 2026-2038. 91 Pts

2022 Bellerive – Médoc – Herbs, tobacco, flowers, and currants blend together in the perfume, and on the forward, soft, medium-bodied, sweet, cherry, and currant-filled palate. I like the dash of cocoa in the finish. You can enjoy this on release. Drink from 2025-2034. 89 Pts

2022 Blaignan – Médoc – Medium-bodied, rustic, crisp, and chewy, this is an old school styled wine that was not very successful this year. Drink from 2025-2032. 83 Pts

2022 Carcanieux – Médoc – The nose lacks cleanliness, as does the medium-bodied, earthy, chalky, bright, drying palate. Drink from 2025-2032. 83 Pts

2022 Clos Manou – Médoc – Equal to its barrel score the wine jumps with its flowers, blackberries, spice, and cedar nose. The mid-palate, and finish complete the job with all of its layers of sweet, ripe, black, with red fruits, and freshness. While this is easy to enjoy in its youth, with a year or two in the bottle, this is going to be even better. Drink from 2026-2038. 92 Pts

2022 D’Argan – Médoc – Medium-bodied, juicy, and fresh, with a lean to the red-fruit, and tobacco-tinged side of the style range. You can enjoy this on release. Drink from 2025-2034. 88 Pts

2022 D’Escurac – Médoc – Sweet, chewy red fruits with a hint of cocoa, roundness, and a ripe, round, fruit-filled finish, packed with creamy cherries, strawberry, and chocolate. You can enjoy this on release. Drink from 2025-2035. 90 Pts

2022 Delhomme – Médoc – Round, ripe, sweet, and polished, this medium-bodied charmer concludes with sweet, ripe red fruits, accented by chocolate and spice. As one of the few Left Bank wines made from 100% Merlot, it will be fabulous upon release. Drink from 2025-2037. 91 Pts

2022 Escot – Médoc – Blackberries, cherries, flowers, and tobacco pop in the perfume. The medium-bodied palate is even better with its soft-textured, cherry-filled core of fruits, and spice. Drink from 2025-2035. 90 Pts

2022 Famille Bouey Erravimus – Médoc – Round, lush, dark, and fruity, with ample chocolate, black cherries, and black raspberries in the finish making this a wine that will be delicious on release. Drink from 2025-2032. 90 Pts

2022 Fleur La Mothe – Médoc – Vibrant cherries, herbs, and flowers pop right off the bat. The palate is fresh, and juicy, with a touch of mint that adds freshness to the red fruits in the finish. Drink from 2025-2037. Drink from 2025-2037. 91 Pts

2022 Fontis – Médoc – Medium-bodied, with a focus on ripe, a melange of spicy, red fruits with a minty edge from start to finish. Drink from 2025-2034. 90 Pts

2022 GdEstournel – Médoc – If you like chocolate, covered, dark red fruits, with supple, creamy, textures, you came to the right place for delicious, early drinking pleasure. In fact, you can enjoy this on release. The wine blends 67% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2025-2036. 91 Pts

2022 Gemeillan – Médoc – Currants, flowers, and mint define the nose, and the palate, of this forward, medium-bodied, cherry packed wine. This is on the light side, so, you can enjoy this with ease on release. Drink from 2025-2034. 88 Pts

2022 Haut Barrail – Médoc – Dried flowers, cigar wrapper, and currants open the wine. Medium-bodied, sweet, and already easy to drink with its core of red fruits, you can enjoy this on release. Drink from 2023-2033. 88 Pts

2022 Haut Maurac – Médoc – Nice wine, and a superb value. From the get-go, you find loads of sweet, ripe, round, soft, red fruits that linger with hints of cocoa, and mint. If you are seeking a nice wine without a name that sells for a song, this is your jam! You can enjoy this with pleasure on release. Drink from 2025-2035. 91 Pts

2022 L’Argenteyre – Médoc – The nose pops with flowers, red fruits, and herbs. The medium-bodied palate is soft, ripe, and sweet, with loads of juicy, red currants in the finish. Drink from 2025-2035. 90 Pts

2022 L’Ecrin de Couleys – Médoc – Red berries and flowers get right to the point in the perfume and on the medium-bodied, forward, early-drinking palate. This will be effortless to drink on release. Drink from 2023-2032. 87 Pts

2022 L’Eden Apodis – Médoc – Forward, fruity, medium-bodied, red fruits and herbs come through in the nose, and on the palate with little effort. You can drink this on release with ease. Drink from 2025-2031. 87 Pts

2022 La Branne – Médoc – Medium-bodied, forward, brisk, chewy, blackberries, and currants are lively on the mid-palate, and in the finish. Drink from 2025-2033. 88 Pts

2022 La Croix – Médoc – Medium-bodied, chewy, minty, open wine, with an olive, and herbal edge in the red berry, and currant finish. You can enjoy this on release. Drink from 2025-2034. 89 Pts

2022 La Gorce – Médoc – Chewy black fruits with a savory herb, and olive edge shine in this medium-bodied, currant oriented wine. You can enjoy this on release and for close to a decade after that. Drink from 2025-2032. 88 Pts

2022 La Roque de By – Médoc – Round, supple, creamy, and open, this is already serving up its layers of sweet, ripe, polished, dark red fruits, with a drizzle of chocolate from start to finish. Drink from 2025–2037. 91 Pts

2022 La Tour de By Heritage Marc Pages – Médoc – Espresso, chocolate, and red with dark, black fruits provide the perfume. Round, and polished on the palate,, the wine finishes with oak, and spicy currants with strawberries in the finish. This is going to be easy to enjoy on release. The wine is produced from a parcel selection. Drink from 2025-2038. 92 Pts

2022 La-Tour-de-By – Médoc – Chocolate, smoke, licorice, and black cherries show with little effort in the nose, and on the palate. Round, forward, and fruity, with loads of sweet, dark red pit fruits that come in at the end, this will be quite nice to enjoy on release. Drink from 2025-2037. 90 Pts

2022 Labadie – Médoc – Light, bright, crisp. crunchy red fruits, with a vibrant, lifted, red currant, and cranberry, light-bodied finish. Drink from 2025-2031. 86 Pts

2022 Lattes – Médoc – Currants, herbs, and flowers in the nose. The medium-bodied wine is forward, crisp, crunchy, and bright, with a pleasant, albeit herb-tinted, lifted, red currant, and bright cherry, slightly, minty finish. You can enjoy this on release and for up to a decade after that. Drink from 2025-2035. 88 Pts

2022 Laujac – Médoc – Flowers, and red fruits, with a touch of oak show in the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, fresh, bright, a bit oaky, and forward. with a red currant and plum note in the finish. Drink from 2025-2035. 90 Pts

2022 Le Bourdieu – Médoc – With a leafy edge to the red fruits on the nose, on the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with spicy, bright, red fruits in the drying finish. You should enjoy this on the young side. Drink from 2025-2034. 85 Pts

2022 Les Anguilleys – Médoc – On the tobacco, and herbal side of the style range, on the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, vibrant, and fresh, with a red berry edge to the finish. Drink from 2025-2034. 87 Pts

2022 Les Grands Chenes – Médoc – Espresso, chocolate, licorice, and black with red plums are all over the place in the nose, and on the juicy, round, polished, chewy, palate. Once everything comes together and integrates, this should be an even better wine. The wine blends 60% Merlot with 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink from 2025-2038. 91 Pts

2022 Les Tresqouts – Médoc – Peppery black fruits with an herbal essence, the wine is medium-bodied, forward, and simple in the finish. Drink from 2025-2031. 86 Pts

2022 Les-Ormes-Sorbet – Médoc – Soft, supple, and creamy with layers of ripe, juicy currants, touches of espresso, wet earth, and herbs, this is quite charming and easy to drink. Drink from 2025-2038. 90 Pts

2022 Lestruelle – Médoc – Leafy herbs, tobacco, dried flowers, and cherries coalesce to produce a medium-bodied, forward, red-berry wine that is already easy to drink. I like the texture here. Drink from 2025-2035. 90 Pts

2022 Livran – Médoc – Flowers, hints of tobacco, blackberries, and mint leaves are at work here defining the nose, and the medium-bodied, fresh, palate. This is already quite charming, so it is easy to like enjoy this on release. Drink from 2025-2040. 91 Pts

2022 Loudenne – Médoc – Blackberries, tobacco leaf, and flowers create the nose. On the palate, the wine delivers its blend of savory, chewy, blackberries. This is one of those superb value wines from the Left Bank that savvy shoppers should keep their eye out for. Drink from 2026-2038. 90 Pts

2022 Loudenne – Médoc – Espresso, tobacco, and ripe black currants open the wine’s aroma and flavor. The wine is medium-bodied, fresh, and lively, with plenty of ripe black and red currants in the minty finish. This wine is already quite enjoyable to sip. Drink from 2025-2037. 90 Pts

2022 Lousteauneuf – Médoc – At this stage, the oak remains a bit intrusive. From there you find a chewy, spicy, currant, cherry-filled, medium-bodied, crunchy wine that will be better with just a year, or two of aging. Drink from 2026-2036. 90 Pts

2022 Maison-Blanche – Médoc – Chocolate-covered cherries, licorice, and smoke pop with little effort. Medium-bodied, soft, and creamy, the wine finishes with a light, sweet, cherry note on the backend. Drink from 2035-2034. 89 Pts

2022 Mareil – Médoc – A bit of cocoa, a dash of currants, a dollop of herbs, and tobacco blend together in this early-drinking, medium-bodied wine that will be ready-to-go on release. Give it a year in the bottle, and it should be even better. Drink from 2026-2036. 89 Pts

2022 Moulin de Canhaut – Médoc – Opening with a shot of oak, the medium-bodied, sharp, red berry finishes dry, with a crisp, earthy, herb-tinted endnote. Drink from 2025-2030. 85 Pts

2022 Noaillac – Médoc – Ripe, round, and frankly delicious, the wine is loaded with dark chocolate, sweet, dark red fruits, blackberries, and more of that sweet chocolate. The fruit-filled finish is lush, long, and fresh. This is a superb wine for the money and will age for close to 20 years. 2022 Patache dAux – Médoc – Savvy consumers seeking a delightful wine brimming with sweet, ripe dark fruits, smoothness, and brightness at a bargain should consider this option. Drink from 2025-2032. 90 Pts

2022 Pierre de Montignac – Médoc – Flowers, oak, red fruits, load up the nose, and the medium-bodied, sweet, rounded, forward palate. You can enjoy this with ease on release, and for up to a decade after that. Drink from 2025-2035. 90 Pts

2022 Pontet-Barrail – Médoc – Cocoa, red fruits, earth, and flowers work together to form the perfume, and the medium-bodied, fresh-forward, charming palate. Drink from 2025-2035. 90 Pts

2022 Pontey – Médoc – Tobacco leaf, and red currants form the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, fresh, forward, light, and pleasant, for easy. early drinking. If you did not know, the wine comes in an attractive, antique-shaped bottle, similar to Pavie. Drink from 2025-2033. 88 Pts

2022 Potensac – Médoc – Clearly, this is the best vintage of Potensac I have ever tasted, and it is easy to see why. The aromatic profile is loaded with tobacco leaf, cedar, herbs, and black fruits. Concentrated with ripe, deep black fruits that provide length, lift and volume, this is going to age for more than 2 decades, if fans can keep their hands off. The wine was produced from blending 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36.5% Merlot, 19.5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.14.52% ABV. Drink from 2026-2045. 94 Pts

2022 Pretexte par Emmanuel Martin N5 – Médoc – Medium-bodied, forward, fruity, early-drinking charmer, with a soft-textured palate, and fruity finish. Drink from 2025-2035. 89 Pts

2022 Preuillac – Médoc – Flowers, tobacco, red fruits, and espresso work together to produce a wine that delivers its sweet, chewy, core of ripe, round, fresh red fruits on release. 2022 Saint Bonnet – Médoc – Charming, and easy to drink, here you find a medium-bodied, fresh, red fruit-filled wine with a touch of herbs in the bright finish. Drink from 2025-2035. 90 Pts

2022 Tour Prignac – Médoc – A bit light on the palate, the wine offers a medium-bodied, fresh, raspberry, and red currant-filled wine that is a bit chalky in the finish. You can enjoy on the young side. Drink from 2025-2034. 87 Pts
