The 2022 Margaux wines, as you might expect, are diverse. This is partly due to the large size of the appellation, which results in varying terroirs, each with different abilities to handle the hot, sunny, and dry conditions experienced in Bordeaux in 2022.

Nevertheless, at their best, 2022 Margaux wines offer floral perfumes with elegance, vibrance, silky textures, and a wonderful purity of fruit on the palate. As you can see in the wine tasting notes below, a few estates are producing the best wines they have ever created! All of the following 2022 Margaux wines were tasted in non blind conditions in my office in early 2025. As you have noted, we are missing 2022 Chateau Margaux, which we are set to taste in April.

2022 Brane Cantenac – Margaux – The perfume showcases a vibrant array of flowers, cigar wrappers, crème de cassis, spices, cherries, and lavender. On the palate, the wine surpasses expectations with its silky and velvety textures. Elegant, symmetrical, and balanced, the wine flows effortlessly across your palate, exhibiting length, purity, and refinement that make it a pleasure to drink. I suspect tasters will find themselves finishing the bottle far too quickly. The wine blends 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmenere. 2022 Brane Cantenac Baron de Brane – Margaux – Supple, soft, and creamy, the floral-edged wine is loaded with elegant, polished, sweet, ripe, delicious fruits that flow across your palate with ease. This baby Brane is perfect to enjoy on release while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. The wine blends 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. 2022 Brane Cantenac Margaux de Brane – Margaux – Silky smooth, delicate, soft, and polished, this gentle, medium-bodied wine is refined, with a core of currants, and cherries with freshness in the end note. 2022 Brane Cantenac Blanc – Bordeaux – Gingery green apples, white peach, and pears, with refreshing yellow citrus notes in the mid-palate, and finish that keeps this juicy, and lively. Drink from 2025-2030. 92 Pts

2022 Le Baron de Brane Blanc – Bordeaux – Honeysuckle, spice, and candied green apples are all over the place here, in the nose, and palate, that ends with a touch of juicy, bright, lemon rind. Drink from 2025-2028. 90 Pts

2022 Cantenac Brown – Margaux – With a serious depth of color, the nose bursts with black cherries, black plums, and more black fruit. The palate is rich, lush, polished, creamy, and filled with a medley of black, red, and blue fruits, alongside notes of licorice, chocolate, and spice. There is a length, opulence, and layers of ripe, sweet pit fruits that linger and expand on the finish. The wine is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot. Drink from 2027-2055. 95 Pts

2022 DArsac – Margaux – Truffle, underbrush, flowers, and red cherries open the nose. Medium-bodied, fresh, and lively, the crisp finish lingers with a touch of bitter cocoa in the end note. Drink from 2026-2040. 90 Pts

2022 DIssan – Margaux – Flowers, espresso, black cherries, licorice, and cocoa fill the aromatics. On the palate, the wine is elegant, fresh, creamy, long, and refined. The fruits are ripe, sweet, and refined, as well as vibrant and, most importantly, pure. The tannins are silky, and even with all this ripeness and concentration, the wine remains light on its feet, leaving you with a sensuous endnote. This is the best vintage of d’Issan I have ever tasted! The wine is made from a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. 2022 DIssan Blason d’Issan – Margaux – Combine tobacco leaves, with sweet, dark cherries, and you get the perfume. The palate, with its soft-textured fruits, is perfect for enjoyment in its youth. All the wine just a bit of time to soften, and it will be even better for near term drinking while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. 2022 Dauzac – Margaux – Flowers, espresso, black cherries, blackberries, and black currant aromatics are easy to spot. On the palate, the wine is soft, sweet, and creamy, with lift, and loads of sweet, ripe, round-textured black cherries in the finish to wrap everything up nicely. The wine blends 63% Cabernet Sauvignon with 37% Merlot. Drink from 2028-2055. 94 Pts

2022 Dauzac Aurore de Dauzac – Margaux – Chocolate-topped black cherries, and flowers, with a hint of tobacco pop in the nose. Medium-bodied, round, soft, and forward, this vibrant wine will be ready to enjoy on release. The wine comes from a parcel selection that blends 60% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2025-2037. 90 Pts

2022 Dauzac La Bastide Dauzac – Margaux – Tobacco-stained currants, flowers, and cedar form the core of this medium-bodied, forward, fresh, and fruity wine that is perfect for early-drinking, soft, refined pleasure. 2022 Du Tertre – Margaux – Spicy, with a strong, dried floral note, the wine is soft, fresh, open, and loaded with energetic, sweet, and soft dark red pit fruits. There is a polish to the tannins, and lift to the fruit on the palate, with a savory to the end notes. Drink from 2028-2042. 93 Pts

2022 Du Tertre Les Haut – Margaux – Dark red pit fruits, leafy tobacco, and herb scents come through easily. Medium-bodied, the wine is round, polished, and shows a touch of tobacco, with herbs in the in the pleasant, fruity finish. Drink from 2025-2033. 90 Pts

2022 Ferriere – Margaux – The intense floral display is what you initially notice. From there, everything gets even better on the palate with all of its energetic red fruits, spices, and silky-tannins, finishing with its display of vibrant fruits. Drink from 2027-2047. 93 Pts

2022 Giscours – Margaux – Intense, rich, sensuous, and lively, this stunning wine opens with a vibrant display of violets, roses, and lilacs, transitioning into an assortment of spices, black cherries, plums, and black raspberries in its aromatics. 2022 Kirwan – Margaux – Flowers, black cherries, currants, and espresso form the core of this round, supple, creamy, medium-bodied, and fresh wine. This will drink well with just a year, or so of age, and will provide pleasure for at least 2 decades after that. Drink from 2027-2050. 92 Pts

2022 La Bessane – Margaux – Light, vibrant, fresh cherries, black raspberries, and plums come through with ease here in the nose, and on the medium-bodied palate. There is lift, and sweetness, but not much richness, though the fruits are quite nice. Drink from 2025-2037. 90 Pts

2022 La Tour de Bessan – Margaux – Round, supple, sweet, lush, and polished, the wine displays its sweet, black, with red fruits with ease, leaving you with a creamy finish that is going to be ready to go on release. Drink from 2025-2038. 92 Pts

2022 La Tour de Mons – Margaux – Blackberries and cocoa, accompanied by a hint of roses and licorice, are evident in the perfume. Medium-bodied, vibrant, and chewy, the finish is fresh and invigorating, with a minty edge to the chocolate and red fruits in the endnote. The wine blends 57% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2025-2042. 92 Pts

2022 Labegorce – Margaux – Flowers, tobacco, cedar, cherries, blackberries. and plums define the perfume. The lush, rounded palate is packed with sweet, ripe, dark, red fruits, silky textures, and most importantly, lift with energy in the finish. 2022 Lascombes – Margaux – Incense, espresso, flowers, chocolate, and cherries are evident in the perfume. The palate is round, lush, and polished. There is a sweetness to the fruits, which are ripe and fresh, but there is a lot of oak to work through, so wait a bit, or enjoy this in its youth for its display of blackberries, black cherries, espresso, chocolate and creamy textures. 2022 Le Coteau – Margaux – Fresh, and fruity, the wine is medium-bodied, vibrant, and forward, so it takes no effort to enjoy all of its sweet, red pit fruits with their refreshing sprig of mint in the finish. Drink from 2025-2038 90 Pts

2022 Malescot St. Exupery – Margaux – Espresso, black raspberries, chocolate, cherries, and mint aromas pop in the perfume. The palate is lush, round, and full, with creamy tannins, and a long, intense wave of black cherries, espresso, chocolate, and a refreshing note of spearmint on the backend, which I really like a lot. The wine is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2027-2050. 94 Pts

2022 Marquis dAlesme – Margaux – Flowers, red pit fruits, mint, black currants, plums, and chocolate aromas burst forth effortlessly. On the palate, the wine is silky, creamy, and fresh. The cherries and plums are sweet, vibrant, and long-lasting. The palate is filled with espresso, spice, mint, and sweet red berries, finishing with a touch of bitter cocoa. The wine blends 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2027-2055. 95 Pts

2022 Moutte Blanc – Margaux – Bright, spicy red fruits, with floral notes pop with little effort. The palate is crisp, juicy, and vibrant, with a lot of freshness in the finish. Drink from 2025-2035. 89 Pts

2022 Palmer – Margaux – If you liked 2018 Palmer, you are going to love the 2022! Produced in a similar style, the wine is ostentatious, flamboyant, and incredibly concentrated, yet it is also elegant, upbeat, and complex. The perfume is on the floral side with spices, and sweet, dark, with red berries. Also, like all the best vintages here, it is the texture that steals owns the show. The palate is pure silk, and velvet, making the perfect backdrop for its non-stop waves of sensuous fruit that start and keep on going, long after the wine has left the glass. The wine blends 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2029-2065. 99 Pts

2022 Palmer Alter Ego dePalmer – Margaux – The perfume showcases flowers, allspice, black currants, licorice, and cocoa. The palate, featuring silky tannins, is fresh, pure, vibrant, and fruity. The refined finish has a beautiful polish, perfect as the berries, spice, and dark chocolate linger in the final note. The wine is a blend of 51% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Petit Verdot. 2022 Rauzan Segla – Margaux – With a deep color, the wine embodies purity, elegance, and refinement. The initial notes of flowers, red and black fruits, cigar box, and cedar create an inviting aroma. The palate is where the wine truly shines; it is silky, intense, and somewhat reserved at this moment, showcasing both concentration and weightlessness. The seamless finish must be both felt and tasted. It is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Merlot, marking the highest percentage of Cabernet ever used in this blend. 2022 Siran – Margaux – Concentrated, rich, mouth-filling, balanced, and lifted, this is even better in the bottle than it was in the barrel, which is always a good sign of positive evolution. Blackberries and chocolate are prominent in the nose and on the palate. The finish lingers with layers of sweet, luscious fruits, a touch of salt, spices, and a savory edge. The wine blends 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 11% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2027-2050. 94 Pts

2022 Tayac – Margaux – Flowers, tobacco, and red berries create the perfume. Soft, juicy, fruity, and medium-bodied, there is a nice blast of back and dark red pit fruits with a touch of menthol in the finish. This is already quite nice to imbibe. Drink from 2025-2040. 91 Pts
