2021 Marcoux Vieilles Vignes – Black cherries, black raspberries, and a striking floral note the nose. But with this wine, it is the silky, sensuous, supple-textured palate that steals the show. 2021 Mas de Boislauzon Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Peppery black raspberries, plums, smoke, and spicy herbs are on the nose. 2021 Mont Redon Le Plateau Blanc – Yellow gold in color, the wine instantly focuses you on its floral character made even better by its nuances of orange liqueur, cut grass, banana, and Meyer lemon rind. 2021 Raymond Usseglio La Part des Anges – One of the darker wines of the vintage, its blend of 70% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache and 10% Syrah works well this year. The palate is medium-bodied, soft, forward, and fresh with an elegantly-styled, mid-palate, and finish loaded with sweet, ripe, soft-textured kirsch. 2021 Solitude (Lançon Pere et Fils) Vin de la Solitude – Spicy, smoky, and leafy, with peppery red fruits in the nose, the wine is soft, elegant, fruity, fresh, and easy-to-like. There is vibrancy to the red fruits, lift, and sweetness, with a lush, mildly creamy texture on the mid-palate that carries through to the finish. Not much wine is made. And, the wine is only produced in specific vintages. It’s not easy to find, as the production is limited to less than 1,000 bottles and 100 magnums. The wine is made from a blend used at the estate in the 18th century, 25% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 22% Counoise, 20% Mourvedre, 7% Cinsault, 3% Clairette, 2% Bourboulenc, and the remainder coming from Clairette Rose, Roussanne, and Grenache Blanc. 2021 Vieille Julienne Les Hauts Lieux – Flowers, licorice, smoked cherries, spice, black raspberries, kirsch, and olives fill the nose. On the palate, the wine is fresh, vibrant, supple, elegant, and mot-importantly, energetic. The fruits are ripe, sweet ,and pure, with a spicy, white pepper edge on the backend of the finish. 2021 Vieille Julienne Les Trois Sources – Flowers, red cherries, blue fruit, licorice, and black raspberries open the perfume. On the palate, the wine is soft, lush, rich, ripe, and packed with lusciously-textured, black cherries with just a hint of blueberries, and a spicy, peppery note that shows in the vibrant, backend. The wine was made from 60% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Cinsault ,and a myriad of various other allowable varieties. Drink from 2024-2032. 94 Pts
2021 Vieille Julienne Reserve – One of the darkest hues of the vintage, the wine is close to opaque in color. The perfume opens with flowers, black raspberries, licorice, kirsch, cherries and bouquet garni. As good as the nose is, here, it is the palate that owns the experience with its layers of elegant, seductive, pure silky, fresh, sweet, fruits. The finish is long, vibrant, and spicy, with a white pepper accent in the finish that adds more brightness and finesse, along with touches of licorice, and dark chocolate that show up at the backend of the finish.
